JAMMU, Sept 9: In the aftermath of recent flash floods that hit several parts of Bishnah constituency, a series of special medical camps were held today to provide relief to affected residents and to spread awareness about water-borne diseases.
The initiative was inaugurated by Bishnah MLA Dr Rajiv Bhagat, who visited all the camps at Banachak, Kharian, Salehar, Allah, Arnia, and Rehal, and interacted with the people. He stressed on the importance of preventive healthcare in post-disaster situations, urging people to adopt safe practices to check diseases like cholera, typhoid and diarrhoea.
The camps were supervised by Block Medical Officer Bishnah Dr Ghansham Singh, who coordinated the deployment of doctors, paramedics and ASHA workers across the affected areas. Each camp was equipped with medical supplies, diagnostic tools, and staff including Dr Pooja, Dr Rohit, Dr Sakshi, Dr Shabnam, Dr Neeru Kundal, Dr Kanika Chib and several other medical professionals.
Alongside treatment and distribution of medicines for common ailments, health education formed a major component of the drive. Pamphlets were distributed in local languages, while doctors demonstrated proper hygiene practices, safe drinking water methods, and preventive steps to avoid disease outbreaks. Screening for hypertension and diabetes was also carried out.
The camps received active support from local leaders including Abhishek Jamwal (mandal pardhan), Surjeet Singh, Som Dutt Choudhary and Sonu Pardhan, who mobilized residents to benefit from the services.
Hundreds of flood-affected people availed free treatment and medicines during the day-long camps, which were described as a timely and coordinated response by the health department and local administration to the constituency’s emerging healthcare needs.
