BJP questions PDP silence over MLA’s derogatory remarks

SRINAGAR, Sept 14: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K today questioned the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) silence over “derogatory remarks” made by Doda MLA Mehraj Malik against former Chief Minister and PDP founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
BJP spokesperson Manzoor Bhat in a statement issued said the PDP’s failure to condemn Malik’s language amounted to a “shameful betrayal” of its founder’s legacy.
“PDP’s deafening silence on Mehraj’s abuses against Mufti Sayeed in the J&K Assembly is a stark expose of the party’s hypocrisy,” Bhat said.
The BJP pointed out that the PDP has recently condemned Malik’s detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) as undemocratic, yet has avoided addressing his alleged remarks against its own founder.
“What action will the PDP take against Mehraj Malik, and how will it ensure accountability among those who disrespect its leaders?” the BJP asked.
The party further questioned whether the PDP was prioritizing “political convenience over the dignity and respect due to Mufti Sayeed,” urging it to clarify its position and uphold its stated values.
