DC Samba launches free medical camp for stranded truckers at Ghagwal

SAMBA, Sept 16: Deputy Commissioner Samba, Ayushi Sudan, today inaugurated a free medical camp at Tapyal Morh, Ghagwal, for over 200 truck drivers and conductors stranded on National Highway 44 due to recent floods and adverse weather.
The initiative was aimed at providing essential healthcare support to transportation workers facing hardships after traffic disruptions.
A statement said the camp was organized by District Administration Samba in coordination with the Health Department.
Vice President BJP J&K, Rashpaul Verma, and DDC Suresh Kumar Falli were present on the occasion.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Ghagwal, KS Bali, and Block Medical Officer Samba, Dr Richa Arora, also attended the event, reflecting the combined administrative effort in addressing the crisis. A specialized team from Area Hospital Ghagwal, led by Incharge Medical Officer Dr Rajiv Mengi and Community Health Officer Lekh Raj Attri, conducted the camp.
The medical staff included ophthalmologist Dr Surbhi Gupta, Dr Rohit Gupta, and supporting paramedics.
The team provided free check-ups, medicines, and screening for non-communicable diseases, recognizing the health risks faced by drivers and conductors who spend long periods on the road without regular medical attention.
Officials said the camp was organised as a timely intervention to meet the pressing health needs of transport workers facing difficult conditions away from their homes.
DC Samba Ayushi Sudan said the camp was part of the administration’s broader approach to respond effectively to humanitarian situations caused by natural disasters.
She added that such initiatives not only address emergencies but also build stronger trust between the administration and citizens.
