SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) Regional Centre Srinagar today announced that it will introduce new MSc programmes in collaboration with the Central University of Kashmir from January 2026, with plans to set up a study centre at SKUAST-K and explore similar tie-ups with the Central University of Ladakh.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Regional Director Dr. A.H. Rizvi displayed a booklet of the centre’s 2024-25 achievements, which documented counselling sessions, lab counselling, and viva-voce examinations for more than 500 students during the June 2025 term-end exams. He said the Srinagar centre serves as a nodal hub for counseling, runs Swayam Prabha Channel 13 for undergraduate programmes in Urdu medium, and has established a placement cell in collaboration with NIELIT to provide training under Government schemes.
On the forthcoming academic calendar, Dr. Rizvi said IGNOU’s December 2025 term-end examinations for open distance learning and online programmes will be held from Dec. 1, 2025, to Jan. 8, 2026, in both pen-and-paper and computer-based modes. He confirmed that the administration has secured cooperation from the local Government to deploy security staff at test centres and from the Postal Department to facilitate logistics after office hours.
The Regional Director also announced that the last date for admissions to the July 2025 session, excluding certificate and semester-based programmes, has been extended until Sept. 30, while re-registration will remain open until the same date with a late fee of Rs. 200.
In addition to academic announcements, Dr. Rizvi briefed on a series of initiatives undertaken during Swachhata Pakhwada, observed from Sept. 12-15 under the Ministry of Education’s “Jan Sampark Jan Bhagidari” campaign and the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. Uma Kanjilal. The programme included a mass pledge on cleanliness, a plantation drive, cleaning of a pond near Dal Lake, cleanliness campaigns at Muwest School and the regional centre, a signature campaign, and awareness lectures. “Students, staff, and officers actively participated to foster collective responsibility toward a cleaner environment,” Dr. Rizvi said, adding that the campaigns emphasized waste segregation, sustainable waste management, and hygiene awareness.
