SRINAGAR, Sept 17: J&K Bank today organized a workshop on financing through Electronic Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (eNWR) at its Corporate Headquarters in Srinagar.
The daylong event, held in collaboration with the Warehouse Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) and National E-Repository Limited (NERL), aimed to spread awareness about eNWR-based financing and promote digital solutions for the agricultural sector.
The workshop saw participation from farmers, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), CA store owners, and warehouse operators.
Additional Chief Secretary J&K, Shailendra Kumar, was the Chief Guest, while J&K Bank MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee attended as Guest of Honour. Senior officials from WDRA, NERL, and the Bank were also present.
In his address, Shailendra Kumar stressed the Government’s focus on improving agri-infrastructure.
He said the capacity of Controlled Atmosphere (CA) stores in Kashmir, currently four lakh metric tonnes, would be expanded to 10 lakh metric tonnes in the next five years.
He urged entrepreneurs to set up such facilities in districts like Kupwara, Bandipora, Budgam, and Kulgam.
He also encouraged farmers to register on platforms like eNAM and ONDC for better market linkages.
Speaking on the occasion, J&K Bank MD & CEO Amitava Chatterjee said registering CA stores with WDRA was a challenging task, successfully handled by the Bank’s senior management.
He highlighted the need to spread awareness about eNWR-based financing and assured that as the scheme gains popularity, the Bank will explore reducing interest rates.
Member WDRA, Shanti Lal Jain, shared WDRA’s perspective, while Business Head (NERL) Vineet Gupta explained the registration and trading process.
Certificates were also handed over to three new warehouses registered with WDRA and to a farmer who became the first in J&K to register with NERL and avail a loan under the scheme.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where participants expressed satisfaction with the workshop’s outcomes.
