Sir,
The commissioning of the Katra-Banihal section has rightly been hailed as a historic milestone, finally linking J&K with the rest of India by rail.
The proposed Baramulla-Uri line and doubling of the Qazigund-Budgam stretch will further boost connectivity, tourism, and security.
Uri, already gaining prominence as a border tourism hub, will see significant benefits, while doubling ensures smoother operations of both passenger and military trains. However, the continued neglect of the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch rail link remains disappointing. These border districts are not only strategically sensitive but also rich in tourism potential. Their people have long aspired for railway access, which could transform local economies and strengthen national integration. Rail expansion in J&K should not remain partial; it must be inclusive. The Government must fast-track Rajouri-Poonch connectivity so that development and security benefits are shared equally across the Union Territory.
