JAMMU, Sept 20: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in Srinagar organized a special interactive programme ‘Meet the Eminent’ with Dr. Baljit Singh Raina, one of the distinguished Punjabi writers of J&K.
Ajit Singh Mastana, eminent writer and Popinder Singh Paras, Senior Editor, Sheeraza Punjabi shared the dais.
Welcoming the gathering, Popinder Singh said the Academy seeks to recognize the life and contribution of authors who dedicate themselves selflessly to literature.
This was followed by lectures by eminent literary figures Ajit Singh Mastana and R.S Rajan, who spoke extensively about Dr. Raina’s lifelong association with Punjabi literature, his strong literary ties with fellow writers and the relevance of organizing such interactions in the present times.
In the main session, Dr. Baljit Singh Raina presented vivid account of his personal and literary journey, sharing when he began writing and how he continued contributing tirelessly to Punjabi literature.
He highlighted his creative achievements in Punjabi, Hindi and Dogri, including translation work.
A detailed research paper on the life and contribution of Dr. Raina was presented by Popinder Singh Paras.
Dr. Raina, author of 41 books, has made significant contributions in fiction, poetry, plays, translations and film scripts.
He is also the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the JKAACL Best Book Award (thrice), Best Play Script Award (2014), Modern Literary Scholar Award (Punjabi Academy, Wolverhampton, U.K.), Best Film Director (Fiction), Dr. Randhir Singh Chand Memorial Award, Kundan Lal Saigal Award, Best Feature Film Director (2023) and Special Jury Award at Chambal International Film Festival (2024), among others.
The programme was conducted by Ichpal Singh, while the vote of thanks was presented by Popinder Singh Paras.
