Srinagar, Sept 20: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K today accused Congress and PDP of “shielding terrorists”, including separatist Yasin Malik.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, BJP State Spokesperson Altaf Thakur said Congress has a history of “supporting” anti-national elements.
He also criticized PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti for what he called “hypocrisy” in seeking protection for Malik despite her sister’s earlier identification of him in a kidnapping case.
“While Mufti’s sister, Rubiya Saeed, had identified Yasin Malik in her kidnapping case and her role in releasing terrorists, Mehbooba is now writing to the Home Minister to shield him,” Thakur said.
He further accused Congress of having a “long history of romanticizing anti-national elements,” citing Malik as responsible for the killing of four IAF officers and Kashmiri Pandits.
Thakur also claimed that previous Congress Governments had sent such terrorists to Pakistan to pursue peace talks with globally designated terrorists like Hafiz Saeed.
BJP spokespersons Manzoor Bhat and Sahil Bashir Bhat, along with Media Incharge Adv. Sajid Yousuf Shah, were also present at the press conference.
In a separate development, BJP organized the “My Emblem, My Honor and Pride for the Nation” event in Hazratbal Assembly Constituency, where citizens gathered to celebrate their respect for the national emblem and the Tricolour.
The party said attendees lauded the developmental work carried out over the last decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting progress in infrastructure, sports, railway connectivity, and road networks.
The event was marked by strong patriotic fervor, with people asserting that “Our National Emblem is our Pride,” reflecting a sense of unity, progress, and integration of Kashmir with the rest of India.
