While speaking with reporters in Srinagar, he said, “To run the Government in the current scenario is just like walking on the edge of a sword, but we have to walk, not hold back, and whatever we can do, we will do.”
The NC chief said restoration of Statehood remains a key demand of the people. “Statehood is an important issue, and people of Jammu and Kashmir hope it will be restored. The focus should remain on pressing Delhi for this demand,” he added.
On separatist leader Yasin Malik’s case, Farooq said the matter was entirely in the court’s jurisdiction. “The matter is before the court, and the court will decide. There is nothing in our hands,” he said.
Commenting on the Public Safety Act (PSA) slapped on Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, Farooq noted that while the language used by Malik against a Government official was inappropriate, the subsequent action was unjustified.
“The PSA on Mehraj Malik is not justified, but the unparliamentary language he used was wrong. We have no authority on this subject; the authority lies with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha,” he remarked.
When asked about the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Abdullah said the question of Statehood should take precedence. “It is better to talk about Statehood than GST,” he said, underscoring that political status and Constitutional guarantees remain higher on his party’s agenda.
