JAMMU, Sept 24: To mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh and the beginning of Navratri, Dr Ritu Singh and Ranvijay Singh organized a large-scale relief and welfare distribution programme for families affected by the recent incessant rains.
The initiative, held at Dhonthali Takki in Jammu, reached over 100 families struggling to rebuild their lives. Essential rations, medicines, sanitary supplies, clothing, shoes, and woolens were distributed. The material included rice, wheat, sugar, pulses, oil, salt, tea, biscuits, milk powder, medicines, sanitary pads, and a variety of clothing for men, women, and children, along with cartons of woolens for the approaching winter.
The programme also featured an Aarti and a special distribution ceremony at Chintpurni Mata Temple, symbolizing the start of Navratri with prayers and community participation.
Addressing the gathering, Ritu Singh said that Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary and Navratri reminded people of their collective responsibility towards those in distress. She recalled the Maharaja’s emphasis on justice, equality, and welfare, noting that his legacy could best be honored through compassionate service.
She underlined that the recent rains had left many families vulnerable and urged residents of Jammu to support the needy, with particular attention to women, children, and the elderly. She added that the involvement of residents, donors, and volunteers demonstrated the strength of community action in helping families recover.
Ranvijay Singh stated that the distribution drive was aimed at providing not just material relief but also hope and confidence to affected families. Referring to Maharaja Hari Singh’s vision of empowering communities and bridging divides, he emphasized that long-term rehabilitation required sustained efforts beyond immediate aid. He encouraged youth and social groups to adopt similar measures to strengthen community ties and ensure that no family remained unattended during recovery.
Dr Ritu Singh and Ranvijay Singh also highlighted the role of Anila Bal and residents of Central Park, whose collaboration and contributions supported the success of the drive.
