11th Canoe Sprint & 7th Indoor Rowing C’ship 2025 begins

SRINAGAR, Sept 27: The J&K Water Sports Kayaking & Canoeing Association, in collaboration with the J&K Association of Rowing & Sculling, organized the 11th Canoe Sprint and 7th Indoor Rowing Championship 2025 at the Water Sports Club, Pokhribal, Srinagar. Nearly 300 athletes from across the Union Territory participated with great enthusiasm.
The event was held under the supervision of world-renowned water sports athlete Bilquis Mir, who emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork and building a healthier society through sports. She expressed her vision of nurturing J&K’s youth to shine on international platforms.
The championship was graced by distinguished guests including SSP Zulfiqar Ahmed, SP North Khanyar Showket Ahmed Dar, Commanding Officer CISF Rakesh Nikhaj, Joint Director Employment Waseem Raja, Shafqat Watali (President J&K Kayaking and Canoeing Association), Dr. Burhan Bazaz (President Rowing and Sculling Association), District Water Sports Presidents Faisal (Bandipora) and Muzafar Ahmad (Baramulla), Cultural Officer University of Kashmir Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, and Latief Ahmad, CEO Colour Curve.
SSP Zulfiqar Ahmed highlighted sports’ role in combating drug abuse among youth. Commanding Officer CISF Rakesh Nikhaj urged institutional support for water sports. Dr. Shahid Ali Khan encouraged athletes to aim for the Asian Games and Olympics. The event concluded with a medal ceremony and a vote of thanks by Dr. Burhan Bazaz, celebrating the rise of a vibrant water sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
