SRINAGAR, Sept 27: In a historic achievement, Colonel Hem Chandra Singh, Principal of Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM&WS) and Lt Colonel Vikas Dhuria of Para (Special Forces), successfully completed a paragliding flight from the summit of Mt Machoi-II, at an altitude of 5129 meters.
As per handout issued, both officers, along with 71 trainees of the Advanced Mountaineering Course-53, summited Mt Machoi-II. Col Singh and Lt Col Dhuria launched their paragliders from the summit (5140 m) despite extreme and gusty wind conditions.
They covered approximately 10 km through a narrow, deep valley, landing safely at Minamarg (Zojila Pass). The successful flight, executed under highly adverse conditions, highlights detailed planning, high-altitude training and exceptional courage. This milestone marks a proud moment for India’s mountaineering and paragliding fraternity.
