Srinagar, Sept 27: Noting that AI can never replace clinicians, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS, Soura, today said that faith and trust between doctors and patients play a crucial role in recovery.
He made the remarks while addressing a workshop on “Head and Neck Cancer Contouring & Treatment Planning” organized by the Department of Radiation Oncology at SKIMS.
Prof. Ganie also emphasized that patient-centric care is central to effective treatment, urging young medicos to show compassion and empathy.
Highlighting the role of technology in enhancing patient care, he said SKIMS is working on multiple fronts to ensure precision, accuracy, and safety in treatment delivery, crucial for minimizing collateral damage.
Appreciating the Department of Radiotherapy, he commended its efforts in carrying forward the legacy of senior faculty, including former heads Prof. Maqbool and Prof. Fir Afroz.
The workshop, themed “Sharper Lines, Better Lives: Advanced Contouring and Planning Techniques in Practice,” focused on the latest advances in precision radiotherapy, covering contouring, treatment planning, and quality assurance.
The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Shaqul Qamar Wani, Additional Professor and Chief Coordinator, followed by introductory remarks from Dr. Malik Tariq Rasool, Head of the Department.
Sessions included expert talks and hands-on training by Dr. Vrinda Singla on target delineation for oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers, and Dr. Lalit Kumar, Senior Medical Physicist, on precision treatment planning using the Eclipse system for breast, lung, and nasopharynx cancers.
