KATRA, Sept 28: The School of Languages & Literature and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) Cell of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with the Department of History, Humanities, and Society, University of Rome Tor Vergata, Italy, and New Literaria: An International Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities, inaugurated the ‘6th International e-Conference on “Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Humanity, Crisis, and Change”.
The two-day conference brings together eminent scholars, researchers, and academicians from across the globe to deliberate on pressing concerns of humanity, crises, and the possibilities of imagining sustainable futures through interdisciplinary engagement.
The inaugural session was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of SMVDU, Prof Pragati Kumar, who delivered the inaugural address. In his speech, he emphasized the transformative role of the humanities in responding to global challenges such as climate change, displacement, inequality, and cultural crises. He urged scholars to use the power of critical thought and interdisciplinary dialogue to envision inclusive and humane futures.
Earlier, Prof Elisabetta Marino of the University of Rome Tor Vergata introduced the Department of History, Humanities, and Society and highlighted the importance of Indo-Italian academic collaboration.
Dr Amitabh Vikram Dwivedi, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, SMVDU, presented an overview of the School of Languages & Literature and the IKS Cell, emphasizing their contribution to interdisciplinary and indigenous knowledge systems. The conference convener, Dr Subhankar Dutta (Associate Professor, NIT Warangal, and Associate Editor, New Literaria), welcomed the participants and provided a brief outline of the conference objectives.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Anurag Kumar, Head, School of Languages & Literature, SMVDU. Over the next two days, the conference will feature keynote lectures, plenary sessions, and parallel paper presentations by internationally renowned scholars, including Prof David Higgins (University of Leeds, UK), Prof Kaori Mori Want (Konan Women’s University, Japan), Prof Sudhir Chella Rajan (IIT Madras, India), Prof Smriti Singh (IIT Patna, India), and many others. Topics will range from environmental humanities and climate justice to rethinking cultural narratives and exploring the intersections of tradition and modernity.
