JAMMU, Sept 29: Kishtwar the hilly and remote district of Jammu and Kashmir has been designated under PM Dhan Dhaannya Krishi Yojna (PMDDKY) as aspirational agriculture district.
The Kishtwar figures among 100 districts of the country selected for PMDDKY in the country out of over 800 districts.
A letter to this effect was written by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Union Minister in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh who represents Udhamapur -Doda -Kishtwar Parliamentary constituency.
The letter said that the Government of India (GoI) in its Union budget 2025-26 has announced to develop 100 aspirational districts under PMDDKY for a period of six years, beginning with 2025-26.
It further said accordingly Union Cabinet has approved PMDDKY on July 16 this year and the formal launch will likely be held next month.
The 100 agriculture districts have been identified based on three key indicators of low crop productivity, low cropping intensity and less short term credit disbursement, the Minister said in his letter.
“I am happy to share that the district Kishtwar has been selected under your Lok Sabha constituency in the State of J&K,’’ Chouhan added.
The letter said that the Committees will be formed at district, State and national level for effective planning , implementation and monitoring. The District Committee under the district Collector is the key, as it will prepare district action plan of consultation with stakeholders and implementation of the scheme. The performance of the scheme in the district will be monitored through a dashboard with defined Key Performance Indications (KPI).
Expressing his utmost pleasure, Dr Jtendra Singh complimented the Minister of Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chouhan for facilitating this.
“ I am sure , this will herald agricultural boost and encourage agri entrepreneurs / start-ups in this remote far flung area , which was denied it’s due share of attention for several decades by successive governments in the past’’.
Dr Jitendra Singh said “Close on the heels of the widely acclaimed Purple Revolution from Bhadarwah, this initiation holds the promise of being another major farming launch from erstwhile Doda district region’’.
