GMC Jammu organizes Haemophilia care camp at SMGS Hospital

JAMMU, Sept 30: The Department of Paediatrics, Government Medical College, Jammu, in collaboration with INTAS Foundation and Jammu and Kashmir Transit Homes, organised a Haemophilia Awareness Program, Comprehensive Lab Support and Genetic Counselling Camp at the SMGS Hospital.
The event, under the Haemophilia Patient Assistance Program (HPAP), commenced with a welcome address by Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Professor & Head of the Department of Pediatrics, SMGS Hospital, GMC Jammu. He highlighted the importance of early diagnosis, genetic counseling, and timely medical support for individuals living with hemophilia.
This program was conducted under the supervision of Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma and Dr Ravi Parihar from the Department of Pediatrics. Ranvir Parihar, technician from Unipath Labs, facilitated the collection of patient blood samples for inhibitor testing, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Additionally, the camp was enriched by the participation of Dr Swarkar Sharma, Consultant Human Genetics & Genetic Counellor, Coordinator Human Genetics Research Lab, Central University of Jammu and Dr Parvinder Kumar, Associate Professor Department of Zoology & Centre for Human Genetics, Jammu University, who provided detailed genetic counseling sessions. Their counseling helped patients and families understand the genetic aspects of hemophilia, inheritance patterns, and the importance of preventive care.
This initiative was designed to extend holistic support to individuals affected by hemophilia. By combining professional counseling with advanced diagnostic care, the camp aimed to empower patients and their families with the knowledge and resources required for better disease management. It further strengthened the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, diagnostic experts, and support organizations in improving the quality of life for people with hemophilia.
