KARGIL, Oct 02: In honor of Gandhi Jayanti, a large-scale cleanliness drive was conducted by the District Administration Kargil under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign of the Swachh Bharat Mission observed from September 17 to October 2, 2025.
]The initiative focused on cleaning the area near the dumping yard at Kurbathang, Kargil.
The drive was led by Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, and Additional Deputy Commissioner/Administrator Municipal Committee Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, with enthusiastic participation from officials and workers of the Municipal Committee Kargil.
Addressing the gathering, Rakesh Kumar expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, especially the cleaning workers of the Municipal Committee, acknowledging them as the true pillars of society. He underlined the importance of waste segregation, emphasizing the need to separate wet, dry, medical, and sanitary waste.
He urged the Municipal Committee workers to expand awareness regarding segregation of waste at the household level, noting that the district has a Solid Waste Management Plant at Kurbathang and other places for effective disposal.
The DC further stated that the ultimate aim of the administration is to transform Kargil into a zero-waste society.
The cleanliness drive lasted for nearly three hours, during which around 1,314 kilograms (1.3 tons) of waste was collected and transported at the Solid Waste Management Plant, Kurbathang.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC/Administrator Municipal Committee Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, lauded the efforts of the Municipal Committee workers and participants for their commitment towards cleanliness.
He stressed that sustainable waste management requires collective responsibility and active citizen participation.
“The Municipal Committee will continue to extend full support to such initiatives in the future,” he assured.
The event not only marked a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness but also reinforced the commitment of the district administration and the community towards a cleaner and sustainable Kargil.
