JAMMU, Oct 2: Media Incharge of J&K BJP, Dr Pardeep Mahotra, today said that the Union Cabinet’s recent decision under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat to Rs 2,585 per quintal, marking a hike of 6.59 percent, is another crucial step towards strengthening the socio-economic status of farmers.
Dr Mahotra said that the Modi Government has been working with the mantra of “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas” to provide equal opportunities and facilities to every section of society without any discrimination.
Highlighting various initiatives of the Government for the farming community, he recalled that the Modi Government introduced PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, providing Rs 6,000 per year to farmers to meet agricultural expenses, besides implementing the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to ensure affordable crop insurance and comprehensive risk cover.
He further pointed out that schemes like the Soil Health Card and revitalized Kisan Credit Card (KCC) have helped farmers access scientific information on soil fertility and timely credit for agricultural activities. In border areas, bunkers have also been built to provide safety to farming families from cross-border threats, he noted.
“By hiking the MSP of Wheat, the main Rabi crop, the Modi Government has once again proven its will to take decisive steps for the upliftment of farmers, both financially and socially,” Dr Pardeep said.
