JCCI organizes interaction with Traffic SSPs over jams in city

JAMMU, Oct 4: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce & Industry today held interaction with SSP Traffic Jammu Farooq Qaiser and SSP Traffic Jammu Rural Girdhari Lal Sharma at Chamber House over the issue of traffic jams and need of proper regulation.
While welcoming the dignitaries in the meeting Arun Gupta, JCCI president said that due to recent rains and land slides and damage caused to the road network, the traffic movement was completely restricted by the authorities even the trucks carrying the perishable items were not allowed to proceed further to their destinations due to which traders dealing in perishable and other items suffered undue heavy losses. However, on Chamber’s request the vehicles carrying perishable items were allowed to move towards their destinations.
Gupta said that no doubt the situation was very critical and the department made efforts to clear the traffic congestion but despite some officers and traffic personnel on duty could not handle the situation properly and they did not allow the traffic movement due to lack of direction from the authorities. He said in case of lack of manpower, the department should have taken the help of NGO’s and other civil society members to clear the traffic congestion.
Sham Lal Langer, Surinder Singh Kala, Ashwani Sharma, Deepak Gupta- president Traders Federation Warehouse also spoke on the issue of non-cooperation by some of the officers and traffic personnel on duty but SSP Traffic Jammu and SSP Traffic Rural were very cooperative. In the coming days this type of situation should not arise for which some concrete measures are necessary.
Both the SSPs said we were not expecting this type of situation as sometimes the drivers of the vehicles did not cooperate and listen to the traffic personnel on duty and due to which the traffic system got disturbed. They said that they have tried their best to listen to all the traders dealing in perishable items especially from Fruit Mandi, Sabzi Mandi , Warehouse and tried our best to release their vehicles on priority basis to minimize their losses.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included- Anil Gupta, senior vice president JCCI, Rajeev Gupta junior vice president, Manish Gupta- secretary general, Rajesh Gupta- treasurer, Ashish Gupta-president Kanak Mandi Traders Association, Amit Goel- general secretary Raghunath Bazar Businessmen Association, Ravinder Sawhney, Rajinder Parashad, Krishnana Kuty, Varinder Kesar, Ajay Gupta, Sanjay Langer, Surinder Mahajan, Ajay Gupta, Abhinav Anand, Suraj Singh and others.
