Wildlife Protection Deptt rescues pregnant bear

KISHTWAR, Oct 5: The personnels of Wildlife Protection Department here today rescued a pregnant female wild bear trapped in the currents of a rivulet.
Sources informed that the personnels of Wildlife Protection Department put 48 hours of hectic and life threatening efforts to rescue the she-Bear trapped in the currents of Dangar Nullah and after rescuing her, they released her in her natural habitat.
The mammoth black beast was spotted by the villagers while it was trapped in the swift currents of the rivulet and they informed the officials of Wildlife Protection Department who immediately swung into action and started a rescue operation with the help of locals and Army personnels.
In-charge of the rescue operation, Range Officer, Shafer Iqbal said: “The trapped animal was one the largest ever spotted in the area.”
“It was learnt that the trapped animal was a pregnant female and the brave personnels of Wildlife Protection Department took utmost precautions to avoid any injury to her,” he maintained adding: “We avoided the use of tranquillizers as the animal was in advance stage of pregnancy and the sedative could have harmed her.”
Shafer further said that people should never try chasing the wild animals if they spot them but instead inform the control rooms of Wildlife Department to avoid life threatening conflict.
