With 89 new infections, dengue cases rise to 1,316

JAMMU, Oct 5: Eighty-nine new dengue cases were reported across the Jammu division on Saturday, taking the total number of infections this year to 1,316.

As many as 287 tests were conducted on October 4. Of the new cases, 54 are males and 35 females, including 12 children and 77 adults. Jammu district remains the worst affected, reporting 62 new cases and a cumulative total of 558 so far. Kathua recorded seven cases (total 374), Samba and Udhampur four each (total 104 and 128 respectively), while isolated cases were reported from Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, and Kashmir region.
So far, 16,075 dengue tests have been conducted this year-slightly higher than 15,571 recorded during the same period in 2024. However, total infections remain significantly lower than last year’s 2,203 cases.
Hospital data shows one new admission today, taking total admissions this year to 32. Eight patients are under treatment while 23 have been discharged after recovery.
Health officials have urged people to remain alert, prevent mosquito breeding, and adopt protective measures such as using repellents and keeping surroundings clean.
