The award was presented to Firdoos by President Droupadi Murmu at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan today.
Instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 1993–94, the NSS Awards honour outstanding volunteers, programme officers and universities for their exceptional efforts in promoting social welfare and nation-building through voluntary service.
A distinguished NSS volunteer from Jammu and Kashmir, Firdoos was recognized for his dedicated work in advancing social development and fostering the spirit of community service among youth.
While specific project details remain undisclosed, his initiatives are said to align with the NSS mission—covering areas such as tree plantation, literacy promotion, health and hygiene awareness, blood donation drives and disaster management efforts.
The MY Bharat-NSS, one of the flagship programmes of the Government of India, was launched in 1969 during the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It aims to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community engagement, nurturing a sense of social responsibility and national integration.
