JAMMU, Oct 6: The Wholesale Grain Market, Ware House-Nehru Market, Jammu’s largest wholesale grain market, has appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to cooperate with local businesses during the ongoing festive season.
The Traders Federation, Ware House-Nehru Market alleged that some Government departments are creating unnecessary hurdles, affecting local businesses.
In this regard, a meeting was convened on Monday under the chairmanship of Federation’s President Deepak Gupta to discuss the issues faced by traders. Gupta stated that the State GST Department has been setting up checkpoints, topping vehicles and imposing heavy fines on traders for minor technical and typing errors. Gupta emphasized that the Federation does not support tax evasion, profiteering or adulteration, but appealed to the Government departments and administrative officials not to harass traders in the name of checking.
He recalled that Jammu’s trade had not recovered from the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam, followed by Operation Sindur, and then the natural disasters in Chishoti, Kishtwar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi yatra route. Due to closure of National Highway from Lakhanpur to Jammu and from Jammu to Kashmir, businessmen had to suffer losses worth crores of rupees.
Deepak Gupta said that now during the festive season, business seems to be getting back on track but now some officials of Government departments are creating obstacles. The Federation warned that if Government departments continue to create hurdles, Jammu’s trade may never recover.
Gupta urged Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and direct Government departments to support traders during the ongoing festive season.
Dheeraj Mahajan, Senior vice-president of the Federation; Vishal Gupta, Vice president; Abhimanyu Gupta, General Secretary; Rahul Gupta, Secretary; Nitish Gupta, Cashier; Munish Mahajan, former Sr Vice President of Federation and Ajay Gupta, President Potato-Onion Union, Krishan Gupta and Ravi Gupta were also present in the meeting.
