Meeting with Nadda could not materialise

JAMMU, Oct 7: The high level team of J&K BJP leaders which had left for Union Capital yesterday to discuss the names of probable candidates for Rajya Sabha and Assembly by polls with party High Command today held a meeting with party national general secretary (organisational ), B L Santosh.

The elections for four Rajya Sabha seats and by elections to two Assembly seats in the UT are to be held on October 24 and November 11 respectively.
According to party sources, BJP national general secretary, Tarun Chugh who is also incharge of J&K and Ladakh UTs was also present in the meeting today. BJP president of J&K UT, Sat Sharma who along with party general secretary (Org), Ashok Koul had left for Union Capital yesterday held detailed discussions with Santosh on the list of probable candidates framed by the party during its Core Group meeting held here last week under the chairmanship of Tarun Chugh.
Sources said that the party leaders handed over the list of about 14 probable candidates for Rajya Sabha elections which was framed during the Core Group meeting in Jammu to B L Santosh. Though BJP leaders were slated to meet party national president, J P Nadda also today but due to his preoccupation the meeting could not materialise, they added.
Sources said, Ashok Koul has left for Jammu after meeting Santosh but Sat Sharma and Tarun Chugh are still in Union Capital and they will try to meet J P Nadda tomorrow and also discuss the list of candidates with him in case of his availability.
Sat Sharma while talking to Excelsior said that in case the meeting with Nadda could not materialise to tomorrow also he too will return Jammu by the afternoon then.
He said today they met B L Santosh and discussed threadbare the list of candidates framed by the UT Unit with him. However, the final decision of selection of candidates lies with Party’s Parliamentary Board. He said though they were slated to meet J P Nadda also today but due to his preoccupation the meeting could not be held. “Now I am expecting to meet him tomorrow and in case the meeting could not materialise tomorrow then I will also return to Jammu by the afternoon,” he added.
It may be recalled that BJP UT Unit had framed list of about 14 candidates prominent among which included former Dy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh, party president, Sat Sharma, former BJP president, Ravinder Raina, party chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, former Minister, Bali Bhagat, OBC leader, Rashpaul Verma, former MLC, Vibodh Gupta and Vice chairperson, Wakf Board Dr Darakshan Andrabi etc.
The BJP which has announced to contest all the four Rajya Sabha seats according to sources may leave one for its ally candidate.
Sources said almost all the probable candidates whose names are figuring in the list submitted by UT Unit are camping in Delhi and meeting different national leaders who would influence to seek their support. They are trying to seek support of some influential party men in Delhi to get their names cleared by High Command, sources added.
