JAMMU, Oct 11: BJP UT president and former Minister, Sat Sharma CA, former party chief and ex MLA Nowshera, Ravinder Raina and ex-Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh are among the front runners for the one seat of Rajya Sabha out of four seats going to polls on October 24 on which BJP has winning chances.

According to sources on other seats, party vice president, Rakesh Mahajan and senior leader Dr Ali are likely to file their nomination papers. Sources said that BJP leadership has given a green signal to these leaders to be ready for filling of nomination papers as party is going to contest all the four Rajya Sabha seats from the J&K UT lying vacant since 2021.
Sources said there is a strong tussle between three senior party leaders including party president, Sat Sharma, its former president, Ravinder Raina and Dr Nirmal Singh on the one Rajya Sabha seat on which BJP has victory chances. The leaders along with others are reaching Srinagar tomorrow morning to file their nomination papers after the Party’s Parliamentary Board clears the names of contesting candidates.
Sources said the final decision lies with BJP’s Parliamentary Board which will announce the names for the all four seats by tomorrow. However, Sat Sharma, Ravinder Raina and Nirmal Singh are the front-runners for the seat on which the party is having victory chances, sources added.
Sources said Opposition Leader, Sunil Sharma has already reached Srinagar today as party is holding a meeting as well as workshop on election process tomorrow there. He will be joined by party president, Sat Sharma, general secretary (org), Ashok Koul, chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi, party vice president, Rakesh Mahajan, former Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh and former party president Ravinder Raina there tomorrow.
Sources said that the BJP held a Core Group meeting at Union Capital today in which the discussions of Rajya Sabha elections as well as ensuing Assembly by poll were held. The meeting was chaired by BJP national president, J P Nadda and among others it was attended by party general secretary ( Org), B L Santosh and general secretary incharge J&K and Ladakh UTs, Tarun Chugh.
However, the names will be cleared by the Party’s Parliamentary Board by tomorrow morning so that the contesting party candidates can file their nomination papers by Monday morning.
Sources said, Dr Ali, a senior BJP leader from Kashmir has been asked to contest from Valley seat. He will file his nomination papers on October 13. The scrutiny of papers will be done on October 14 while the withdrawal of nomination if any will be done on October 16 and the elections will be held on October 24. The results will be declared the same day.
Sources said Union Minster Dr Jitendra Singh, party general secretary, incharge J&K and Ladakh Tarun Chugh will also accompany BJP candidates on Monday while filing their nomination papers. While Chugh will reach Srinagar tomorrow, Dr Jitendra Singh will reach there on Monday morning from Delhi.
