DEHRADUN, Oct 11: The Pushkar Singh Dhami government today cancelled the controversial graduate level Uttarakhand Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UKSSSC) examination, held to fill vacancies in various departments triggering mass protests due to leakage of question paper.
Decision to quash UKSSSC exam was taken following submission of one-member inquiry commission report by former Uttarakhand High Court judge UC Dhyani.
Following submission of the report by Justice Dhyani an statement issued by the UKSSSC said, “In order to maintain the integrity, confidentiality, transparency and credibility of the examination commission has decided that it will be appropriate to cancel the examination held on September 21. The graduate-level examination held on September 21, 2015 stands cancelled and it’s proposed that reexamination will be held after three months.”
Officials in Chief Minister’s Office informed that one-member judicial inquiry commission constituted by the state government to investigate paper leak had recommended quashing of UKSSSC exam held on September 21. The Dhami government missed no time in deciding to cancel the exam following submission of the report by Justice Dhyani. It’s significant that state government was also under pressure to take decision as the 10-day deadline give by the youths who protested against paper leak was to end on Saturday.
Speaking on the report, CM Dhami said, “Commission was able to submit its report after large scale public hearings and collecting opinions of the candidates and other stake holders. This is commendable. Government will examine the report and take decisions in the interest of the candidates.”
The Chief Minister stated recommendation for CBI probe was already made for to ensure complete impartiality in the matter that forced the student and youths to come on the roads for agitation.
The Chief Minister added that his government will keep the sanctity, transparency and credibility of the recruitment examinations in the state.
He said necessary steps will be taken to prevent even an iota of irregularity in all future recruitment examinations.
Dhami claimed that faith of the candidates and guardians in the service selections examination system will not be let down.
It must be recalled that three pages of the question paper were leaked from a centre in Haridwar within half an hour of starting the examination. It subsequently went viral on social media as nearly 1.05 lakh candidates took the examination.
The main accused, Khalid Malik allegedly managed to sneak a mobile phone into the exam hall. He photographed rhree pages of question paper and sent them to his sister Sabia who forwarded the pictures to another person for solving the questions.
The leak led to widespread protests across the state, particularly in Dehradun with students demanding the immediate cancellation of the exam and a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Seeing at mass protests, the Dhami government on one hand formed an SIT in the matter and constituted a single-member inquiry commission headed by Justice Dhyani.
Meanwhile, as the students’ agitation went on relentless for more than a week, CM Dhami personally visited the protest site in Dehradun on the eve of Dussehra and announced to recommend CBI probe in paper leak.
He had also assured that cancellation of examination will be decided by the inquiry commission. (UNI)
