Drugs silently destroying families: JKNPF

SRINAGAR, Oct 11: Urging the Government to act against the crisis, the J&K Nationalist Peoples Front (JKNPF) today said that the menace of drug abuse was “silently destroying families.”

The party leaders made these remarks after holding a mega bike rally across Srinagar to raise awareness against the growing drug menace in the Valley.
Held under the banner “Drug-Free Kashmir”, the rally saw scores of bikers ride through the city, impressing for a need for a Kashmir free from the curse of drugs.
The rally began from the JKNPF office in Lal Chowk and passed through Dalgate, Khanyar, various areas of Downtown, Idgah, and Karan Nagar before culminating at Ghantaghar, Lal Chowk.
Addressing the participants, JKNPF leaders voiced concern over the alarming rise in drug abuse across J&K, where an estimated 13 lakh people are said to be directly or indirectly affected.
They urged authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the NDPS and PNDPS Acts to curb the growing menace that is “silently destroying families.”
The party appealed to religious leaders, imams, and khateebs to use Friday sermons to spread awareness about the moral and social dangers of addiction.
It also urged parents to remain vigilant about their children’s activities and peer circles.
To involve citizens in the campaign, the JKNPF announced the launch of a toll-free hotline to confidentially report drug-related activities.
The party said such information would be promptly shared with authorities for necessary action.
Expressing gratitude to the District Administration, J&K Police, and local police officers for their support, the party especially thanked SSP Srinagar and SP North for facilitating the smooth conduct of the event.
