JAMMU, Oct 13: An awareness session on the citizen-centric initiatives of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), including Sanchar Saathi and the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), was organized by DoT, J&K Licensed Service Area (LSA) at Reserve Bank of India Regional office, Jammu today.
Senior officers from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Jammu, along with representatives from major banks such as SBI, J&K Bank, ICICI Bank, PNB, Axis Bank, J&K Gramin Bank, CANARA Bank, Anantnaag Central Cooperative Bank, Baramula Central Coorperative Bank, J&K State Cooperative Bank, Devika Urban Cooperative bank, etc participated in the session.
The discussion primarily focused on the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI)-a platform developed by DoT to identify and categorize suspicious mobile numbers as `Very High Risk’, `High Risk’, or `Medium Risk’ based on threat perception assessed by the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) of DOT.
Under this initiative, financial transactions to numbers categorized as Very High Risk or High Risk are automatically blocked, thereby, preventing potential fraud. In cases involving Medium Risk numbers, customers receive alerts prompting them to verify the transaction before proceeding.
RBI has issued advisories to all banks and financial institutions to integrate their systems with the DoT’s FRI platform. The Regional Director, RBI, Jammu directed all banks to expedite this integration process.
The session also highlighted all six key services of the Sanchar Saathi initiative – Chakshu (for reporting suspected cybercrime calls/SMS), CEIR (for reporting lost or stolen mobile devices), TAFCOP (to check mobile connections in one’s name), KYM (to verify the authenticity of mobile handsets), RICWIN (for reporting international calls using Indian numbers), and KYI (to identify internet service providers).
The DoT team for the session was led by Rahul Kumar Sachan, DDG (Security), J&K LSA, and included Manish Jain, Director, Ashutosh, ADG, and Navin Reddy, ADET. From the RBI, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Regional Director, Shubhabrata Ghosh Maulik, DGM (Banking) and Ram Sarup, DGM (DOS) and other officers from banking department RBI attended the session.
