JAMMU: “A positive growth mindset means believing that we can always learn, improve, and grow, no matter how difficult things may seem.” With this inspiring statement, Adhamya Sharma of Grade 8 Pearl, along with his classmates, conducted the morning assembly on the theme “Developing a Positive Growth Mindset” at JK Public School, Kunjwani.

Adding more gravitas to the discussion, Amaira shared, “Let’s practise five daily habits – first, embracing challenges by choosing a tough worksheet, a new sport, or an unfamiliar stage; second, persisting through setbacks by treating mistakes as data, refining our strategy, and trying again; third, seeking and using feedback by asking ourselves, ‘What can I do differently?’ and then acting on it.”
Taking the reflection a step further, Ratul added, “Let’s admire and then inquire. When a peer excels, instead of feeling envious, let’s ask – how did they train, read, or rehearse? Let’s record our reflections in a journal, noting one thing we’ve learnt, one strategy we’ve refined, and one person we’ve helped.”
The literary flavour of the assembly was enriched by Rudrakshi, who recited a soulful and thought-provoking poem:
I stumble once,
I stumble twice,
But each fall teaches me
something nice.
The path is rough,
the hill is high,
Yet I keep walking,
reaching the sky.
Mistakes are seeds
that future sows,
From every crack,
a flower grows.
I learn, I try,
I try once more,
Each effort opens
a brand-new door.
No ‘can’t’, no ‘won’t’,
just ‘not yet’ here,
I face my doubts,
I lose my fear.
Now every day,
in heart and mind,
I grow in strength,
I grow in kind.
Under the ‘Quotations’ segment, students shared timeless wisdom, Aarnav quoted James Vanier: “Growth begins when we start to accept our own weaknesses”.
Devanshu referred to Abraham Lincoln: “If you want to predict the future, you need to create it”.
Aarav Singh quoted Thomas J. Watson: “In a growth mindset, failure is a teacher, not an enemy. Prabhtej Singh cited Matty Mullins: “The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.”
In his concluding address, Principal Rajesh Rathore lauded the presenters for enlightening the audience and sparking meaningful introspection. He remarked, “Remember, talent is a seed; discipline, feedback, and hope are the water and sunlight. If you keep showing up, you’ll keep growing. Let JKPS be known as a school where students don’t fear difficulty, where teachers coach them toward mastery, and where every corridor echoes with the courage to improve.”
He concluded with an inspiring message, “Together, let us build a culture where effort is honoured, mistakes are instructive, and progress is inevitable. Keep learning, keep trying, and keep adding ‘yet’ – for the best is yet to come”.
