LEH, Oct 13: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, stated that Ladakh is poised to become India’s premier winter sports destination due to its unique terrain and harsh winters. Chairing a meeting to discuss winter sports development projects in Drass and Zanskar, he emphasised the urgent need for modern infrastructure, including Chair Lifts, Ski Drag Lifts and a Winter Sports Academy to boost tourism and local employment.
The meeting was attended by CEC LAHDC Kargil Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Executive Councillor Er. Punchok Tashi, Administrative Secretary YSS Bhanu Prabha, Joint Director YSS Tahir Hussain, councillors, and members of the Ski Association and Zanskar Ski School.
LG Gupta highlighted successful initiatives like the installation of chilling plants at NDS Stadium Leh and in Kargil, aimed at supporting year-round ice hockey training. He stressed the role of annual events like Khelo India Winter Games in promoting Ladakh on the national and international stage.
Earlier, officials from Ronmas Pvt India, the consultancy firm, apprised about the project, with Chair Lift/Ski Drag Lift to be established in the first phase and Winter Sports Academy in the second.
