Srinagar, Oct 15: Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education Sakeena Itoo today said the National Conference (NC)-led Government has “ensured accountability” in the system and achieved “a great deal” in the past year.
Speaking with reporters here at Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Itoo said that whether in education, health, or social welfare, the Government is satisfied with its first-year performance.
“I won’t say everything has been done because one year is too short, but we have made a good start. We have ensured accountability in the system – be it higher education, school education, or the health department,” she said.
She said all colleges that earlier existed only on paper have been made operational with the required staff in place.
“Earlier, many existed only in name – there was no staff – but now that has been ensured. Around 140 APs have been recruited; incomplete colleges have been completed and made functional,” she said.
Itoo said the education system in J&K has been made more efficient, with many long-pending issues resolved.
“DPCs have been held, vacancies in the School Education Department have been addressed through rationalization, and promotions ensured,” she added.
Calling the change in the academic session the Government’s biggest achievement, she described it as a long-pending demand of the people of Kashmir.
“Schools running from rented buildings have been identified and projected, and funding has been ensured,” she said, adding, “You will see results soon – you might see less for now, but there is change.”
On the health sector, Itoo said that accountability has been ensured and the essential equipment like MRI machines or cath labs, previously missing, have now been made available.
“We have appointed 540 new doctors for people in far-off areas. Consultants have also been appointed to improve patient care,” she said.
