ANTANANARIVO, Oct 17: Michael Randrianirina, a Malagasy military officer, was sworn in on Friday as the president of Madagascar in the capital here.
“Before God, the nation, and the people, I do solemnly swear to faithfully fulfill my duties as the Head of State of Madagascar,” Randrianirina said at the country’s Constitutional High Court.
On Tuesday, Randrianirina announced that state power in Madagascar has been taken over, noting that the decision followed “the observation of non-compliance with the Constitution and the flouting of human rights.” (UNI)
