GMC Jammu celebrates World Menopause Day with CME, Quiz

JAMMU, Oct 19: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, observed World Menopause Day 2025 by organizing a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and Quiz to raise awareness on various aspects of menopause management, including nutrition, lifestyle, and women’s overall health.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, postgraduate students, and practicing clinicians. Organized under the patronage of Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, the CME was led by Dr Robina Mirza, Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as the organizing chairperson, with Dr Parikh Rana, Associate Professor, serving as the organizing secretary.
The occasion was graced by Dr Sudhaa Sharma, former Professor, Department of OBG, GMC Jammu, and president-elect, Indian Menopause Society (IMS) 2025-2026, as guest of honour. In her address, she emphasized the importance of a comprehensive and compassionate approach to menopause care. Dr. Sharma highlighted the need for lifestyle modification, mental well-being, and evidence-based practice to improve women’s quality of life during the menopausal transition.
Dr Jyotsana Lamba, Professor, Department of OBG, GMC Jammu, and president, Jammu Menopause Society, delivered an informative lecture on “Genitourinary Symptoms in Menopause.” She discussed the clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and management strategies for urogenital atrophy, stressing early recognition and individualized treatment for patient comfort and health.
Dr Parikh Rana, Associate Professor, presented an engaging session on “Nutrition in Menopause.” She underscored the role of a balanced diet, essential micronutrients, and regular physical activity in maintaining bone, metabolic, and cardiovascular health in postmenopausal women.
The entire program was coordinated by Dr Anuradha and Dr Nikita Gandotra, who kept the proceedings lively and well-coordinated throughout the event. An interactive Menopause Quiz for postgraduate students added an element of enthusiasm and academic engagement, testing their knowledge on recent advances and evidence-based guidelines in menopause management.
