KERAN, Oct 19: Project Roshni was inaugurated in Keran village to promote sustainable development and empower border communities. The initiative brings clean energy, fuel, and water solutions through coordinated efforts by the Government and NGOs.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 40 households received functional LPG connections through ASEEM Foundation’s clean fuel project. Each household received a gas cylinder, double-burner stove, regulator, pipe, and lighter. The Rashtriya Rifles Battalion facilitated the documentation process. This step promotes clean cooking, reduces firewood dependence, and lowers health risks from traditional fuels.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a clean water project was launched in partnership with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). A water filtration plant with a 2,000-litre-per-day capacity and two 2,000-litre storage tanks ensures safe drinking water. The system includes steady water supply, continuous power backup, and full filtration infrastructure.
Under the Atal Jyoti Yojana, 90 solar-powered street lights have been installed along the banks of the Kishanganga River. Executed by the Rural Development Department, the project improves night visibility and enhances the scenic appeal of Keran valley, supporting local tourism.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by. Chinta Devi, Veer Nari and wife of Late Nb Sub Chuni Lal, one of the most decorated soldiers of the Indian Army.
Project Roshni is jointly sponsored by the Indian Army, the State Government, and the ASEEM Foundation. It stands as a model of collaboration for inclusive growth and sustainable border development.
