JAMMU, Oct 22: In a significant step towards youth empowerment and sports promotion in Jammu & Kashmir, Martand Singh, the young scion of the Dogra Royal Family, has been appointed as the Director of the newly launched ‘Amar Singh Sports & Youth Initiative’. The program will function under the aegis of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust, following its approval by the Trust’s Executor Trustee, Dr. Karan Singh.
The initiative aims to promote sports, youth talent and skill development across J&K, offering young individuals opportunities to grow and excel at state, national and international levels. Named in honour of Raja Amar Singh (1864-1909) of the Dogra dynasty-known for his legacy of public service and institution-building-the initiative seeks to carry forward that same spirit of regional upliftment.
Martand Singh, a Trustee of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust and an alumnus of the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, is also a practicing advocate. He has been actively involved in socio-cultural activities, heritage conservation and outreach programs at the Amar Mahal Museum, established by the Trust in 1975.
Speaking on the occasion, Martand Singh said, “With the launch of the Amar Singh Sports & Youth Initiative, we hope to provide meaningful platforms and tools for the youth of J&K to realise their potential and thrive through sports and skill development.”
He also announced the formation of an Advisory Committee to guide the initiative by engaging experts, community leaders and stakeholders. The Trust has expressed openness to partnerships and collaborations with like-minded organizations to foster a vibrant sporting and youth development culture in the region.
The initiative marks an expansion of the Hari Tara Charitable Trust’s mission, originally founded by Dr. Karan Singh in 1970 and reinforces its commitment to socio-cultural and educational progress in Jammu & Kashmir.
