Vakil accuses NC of secret political pact with BJP

SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Senior vice president Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that it is the firm belief of the People’s Conference that there has always been a secret political understanding between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Conference (NC).
Vakil said this “unholy alliance” began the day Omar Abdullah joined the BJP-led Government at the Centre and when Saifuddin Soz was expelled from the National Conference merely for casting his vote against the BJP Government.
“Once again, the NC has exposed its closeness with the BJP by refusing to surrender even one Rajya Sabha seat in favour of the Congress. This decision directly benefits the BJP at the Centre and simultaneously weakens the Congress, a national party,” Vakil remarked.
He further said that the Congress has shown political dignity and self-respect by refusing to accept the Nagrota seat, adding that “the party deserves appreciation for taking such a principled stand.”
Vakil also recalled historical facts, saying, “The NC has always been in favour of the abrogation of Article 370. Even their top leader, Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, had stated in 1978 that Article 370 is not sacrosanct and can be changed. The present NC leadership gave practical shape to that statement when, just three days after meeting the Prime Minister of India, the Government of India abrogated Article 370.”
