2-drug peddlers arrested in Shopian, Budgam

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Police today arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
According to a police spokesperson, during routine naka checking at Dangerpora, Amshipora, a police party intercepted a car with registration JK03-9305 carrying three occupants. Two fled on seeing the police, while Shakeel Ahmad Das, a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, was apprehended. “Three bags of poppy straw weighing 24 kilograms were recovered, and the vehicle used in the crime was seized. Investigation is ongoing to trace the forward and backward linkages of the accused and the broader network involved in drug trade,” he said.
In Budgam, a police party at Warpora-Galwanpora Crossing intercepted a passenger auto with registration JK01Q-7851. Hilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Chodrybagh, Sebdan, was arrested after 376 grams of charas-like substance in ground form and 27 grams in a disposable bag were recovered. “The vehicle was also seized, and cases have been registered under relevant sections of law,” the spokesperson added.
