6-long-evading absconders arrested

SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Police today arrested six long-evading absconders in Sopore, Shopian, and Awantipora, who had been on the run for years in separate cases.
A police spokesperson said that in Sopore, Saleem Ahmad Sheikh, son of Fojia Sheikh, resident of Parimpora, and currently residing in Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, Srinagar, had been evading arrest since 2003. “He was wanted in FIR No. 29/2003 under Sections 379 and 511 RPC of Police Station Dangiwacha,” he said.
Another absconder, Bashir Ahmad Mir, son of Ali Mohammad Mir, resident of Lachipora, Handwara, had been absconding since 2016. “He was wanted in FIR No. 134/2012 under Section 379 RPC of Police Station Tarzoo. Both were traced and arrested after meticulous police efforts and will be produced before the courts,” the spokesperson added.
In Shopian, three long-term absconders were apprehended. “They include Munshi Chohan, a resident of Aribal Kulgam, wanted in FIR No. 29/1999 under Section 381 RPC of Police Station Shopian; Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Niloora Pulwama, wanted in FIR No. 25/2002 under Section 379 RPC and Section 6 of the Forest Act of Police Station Shopian; and Farooq Ahmad Lone, a resident of Noorpora Tral, wanted in FIR No. 410/2010 under Section 379 RPC of Police Station Shopian. These individuals had deliberately evaded arrest for over three decades,” he said.
In Awantipora, Latief Ahmad Akhoon, son of Jalal Din, resident of Mulfaq Harwan, Srinagar, who had been evading arrest for 14 years following non-bailable warrants issued by the Principal Sessions Court Pulwama, “was arrested in connection with FIR No. 100/2011 under Section 20/20 NDPS Act of Police Station Awantipora,” the spokesperson added.
