Bhaiya Dooj celebrated with traditional fervour, rituals

JAMMU, Oct 23: The festival of Bhaiya Dooj – a celebration of the sacred bond between brothers and sisters – was celebrated today with great warmth, love, and emotional connection.
On the day sisters applied Tikka- a paste made in little pure ghee using vermilion mixed with flowers and rice, over the forehead of their brothers and prayed for their healthy-long lives. The brothers in return gave them symbolic gifts assuring to stand-by them in the hour of need.
Heavy rush was witnessed at sweet shops and gift houses where females thronged to buy delicious sweets and gifts for their brothers. Several garment shops, jeweller outlets and others were offering discounts to lure the people to buy attractive things as gifts.
Social media platforms were thronged with posts of Bhai Dooj where many people shared their photos with their sisters, while celebrating the festival.
At the Home for the Aged & Infirm (Vridh Ashram), Ambphalla, Jammu, the event brought an atmosphere of joy and familial affection.
The celebration was organized with the heartfelt intention of bringing festive cheer to the elderly inmates, who are away from their families. Young volunteers and well-wishers joined hands to make the occasion special by performing traditional Tilak ceremonies, tying sacred threads, and offering sweets to the senior residents, symbolizing the spirit of togetherness and care.
The inmates, overwhelmed with emotions, shared fond memories of celebrating Bhaiya Dooj with their siblings in earlier days. Their eyes sparkled with nostalgia as the young visitors affectionately played the role of their brothers and sisters, bridging generations through compassion and love.
The celebration was coordinated under the guidance of Dr Dinesh Gupta, Secretary of the Home for the Aged & Infirm.
