KATRA, Oct 25: Continuing its crackdown on illegal activities, including smuggling of drugs, liquor and misuse of weapons in Katra Town, Police arrested a notorious female drug peddler, a bootlegger and four criminals.
The female bootlegger, apprehended near Eidgah Nangal Road, Katra, has been identified as Maya Mir, wife of Anwar, resident of Railway Road, Katra.
During the patrolling and checking duties, the police intercepted the accused and recovered 6.36 grams of heroin-like substance from her possession. In addition, cash amounting to Rs 7,900; an electronic weighing machine, a plastic container and 15 strips of aluminium foil were also recovered from her possession.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is a repeat offender and has a long history of involvement in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. She has previously been involved in five FIRs registered at Katra Police Station. She was also detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2022 and had been lodged in Ambphalla Jail, Jammu.
In another success, Police arrested a bootlegger and seized large quantity of illicit liquor from his possession. The accused, identified as Mohinder Kumar, son of Dalip Kumar, residing in a Jhuggi opposite Katra Stadium, was found carrying a bag containing 42 bottles of JK Whiskey (250 ml each).
Meanwhile, Katra Police also arrested four criminals who were carrying weapons. The arrested individuals have been identified as Karan Masih, son of Sanju Masih, resident of Counter No. 2, Katra; Jasvinder Singh alias Sundri, son of Ganga Singh, resident of Sarna, Katra; Rajinder Singh Jamwal, son of Karan Singh Jamwal, resident of Pamote, Katra and Satish Kumar, son of Rakesh Kumar, resident of Katra.
Among the arrested individuals, Karan Masih, Jasvinder Singh and Rajinder Singh have a previous record of involvement in various criminal cases in Katra and nearby areas.
All the operations were conducted under the leadership of SHO Katra, Khyatimanh Khajuria and SDPO Katra, Dr Bhishm Dubey.
