Sources said the case FIR number 198/2025 under sections 299 (deliberate or malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation or coercion) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered after protests in Kathua town, where the agitators claimed the Missionaries allegedly disrespected the religious figures and literature of the Hindu community in an attempt to convert people by offering them good health, prosperity, and employment in Juthana and other areas of the district.
Leading one such joint protest of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal at Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua, VHP Sangathan Mantri Mohinder Pal, strongly criticized the Missionaries, especially a group that had recently visited Juthana Village, for targeting the gullible people for conversion.
“The Missionaries are deliberately targeting the poor and the innocent people from the Hindu community to offer them various benefits for conversion. This won’t be tolerated forthwith,” he warned.
He demanded that the elements accused to trying to disturb the area’s peaceful atmosphere and brotherhood be brought to book.
Another protestor at the venue emphasized that Hindu people were being specifically targeted by the Christian and Muslim Missionaries. He called the activity illegal and against the civil society.
The protest was called off after a warning was issued to those engaged in the alleged conversion activities.
Similar protests were earlier staged in Juthana and Nagri areas of Kathua district, where people blamed the Christian Missionaries from Kerala for converting people by offering them various benefits, and sought strict action against their “misdeeds.”
