SRINAGAR, Oct 26: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader Peerzada Mansoor today accused the National Conference (NC) of giving safe passage to the BJP’s victory in the recent Rajya Sabha elections, saying the party “gave way to the BJP very easily” in one seat.
Speaking on the outcome, Mansoor said the PDP had voted in favour of NC candidate Shammi Oberoi “in the larger interest,” while decisions on other seats were left to NC leaders, including Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
“Who deceived them? Who told them not to vote? Omar claimed they ate with us but did not vote. Anyway, we did not eat food. Mehbooba said we will vote and voted,” he said. He also addressed accusations against AAP leader Mehraj Malik, saying that he had voted as required.
Mansoor criticized the NC for not securing all possible seats, saying, “They could have made Imran Nabi Dar win. They did not. They gave safe passage to BJP very easily. Everybody knows it; even BJP people say this.”
He also blamed Congress leadership for the results, claiming Rahul Gandhi’s approach led to fewer seats. “If Congress had contested separately, there would have been more seats,” he said.
While defending the PDP’s stance, Manzoor acknowledged ideological differences with the NC and said the party is focused on rejuvenating itself and supporting youth causes, including equitable reservation.
Mansoor said, “10 to 15% expenditure has been done here. We will face a harsh winter in Kashmir; we will not be able to do even 25%.”
