Srinagar, Oct 26: Senior vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that the cross-voting in the Rajya Sabha elections has created uncertainty in J&K’s political landscape, and it has now become the moral and political duty of Omar Abdullah to seek a vote of confidence in the Assembly.
Vakil said that although Omar Abdullah claims his MLAs are intact, he must reveal the names of those MLAs who voted for the BJP and helped them secure the Rajya Sabha seat. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to know the truth,” Vakil asserted.
He added that it’s not just seven MLAs – the numbers appear to be much higher, as more and more legislators are seen disappointed and distancing themselves from the present government.
Vakil alleged that it was National Conference MLAs who voted for the BJP, adding that People’s Conference president Sajad Lone had already predicted a secret political understanding between NC and BJP, which has now become evident with the allocation of one seat to the BJP.
Expressing astonishment, Vakil questioned how Omar Abdullah can accuse others of being pro-BJP, when he himself served as Minister of State for External Affairs in the BJP-led government, a role that primarily aimed to convince the world that no atrocities were taking place in Jammu and Kashmir.
Vakil further reminded people of the long-standing proximity between NC and BJP, recalling that Farooq Abdullah had expelled Saif-ud-Din Soz from the National Conference after he voted against the BJP Government at the Centre.
