JAMMU, Oct 27: In a major success against drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered five kilograms of heroin worth about Rs 35 crores in the international market from the RS Pura sector here today.
SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said the operation followed a report by the 120 Battalion of the BSF regarding suspicious drone movement along the International Border in Bidhipur Jattan area.
He said the joint operation was launched during the intervening night of October 26 and 27 and the searching teams found two yellow-coloured packets in paddy fields close to the border at the first light today.

He said each packet contained five smaller packets – a total of 10 small packets – which were confirmed as a heroin-like substance suspected to have been dropped by a drone from across the border in Pakistan.
Followed by this, the District Police chief said a recovery memo was prepared in the presence of a Magistrate, which weighed the seized material as approximately five kilograms.
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR number 211/2025 under Sections 8, 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station RS Pura, with the probe entrusted to the SHO of RS Pura, Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, assisted by SI Ranbir Singh, incharge of Border Police Post Baspura.
The SSP Jammu further said investigation teams are probing both backward and forward linkages to identify handlers, sources and intended recipients of the contraband.
Referring to the total drug-related investigations this year, he said analysis showed nearly 60 percent of persons involved in drug cases were also linked to other crimes such as thefts and bovine smuggling.
“Following identification, almost 40 persons have been booked for drug peddling and a similar number have been booked for other criminal activities,” he said.
The SSP Jammu added that 30 people have also been identified as suppliers of drugs into Jammu, with most of them residents of Punjab, Kathua and Jammu districts.
While probing backward and forward linkages in 24 drug-related cases this year, he said, police arrested 21 persons who have been lodged behind bars.
“This war against drugs will continue unabated,” he added.
