CHANDIGARH, Oct 27: Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, today announced that the upcoming memorial at Lohgarh in Yamunanagar will commemorate the courage and sacrifice of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur while showcasing the rich cultural and spiritual legacy of the Sikh community.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event marking Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s birth anniversary at Lohgarh, the minister said the memorial will serve as a centre of faith and inspiration for devotees from across India and abroad, as well as a hub of Indian heritage and pride.
Manohar Lal described Baba Banda Singh Bahadur as a symbol of bravery and sacrifice whose life continues to inspire generations. He recalled that the Sikh warrior established Lohgarh as his capital after his victory over Sirhind, which ended the feudal system and brought justice to farmers.
The project was formally launched during the event with the laying of the foundation stone for the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Memorial and a modern museum. Ministers Shyam Singh Rana and Ranbir Gangwa were also present, and each contributed Rs 21 lakh to the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Trust.
Officials said the memorial will be built on 20 acres of land provided by the Gram Panchayat of Bhagwanpur. A grand statue of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur will also be installed through an international design competition.
K. Makarand Pandurang, Director General of the Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, said the memorial will symbolise the unbreakable spirit that binds the nation to its cultural and historical roots. Several dignitaries, including former minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar and former MP Sanjay Bhatia, also attended the ceremony.
