JAMMU, Oct 27: The Janata Dal (United) has fired a fresh salvo at the J&K administration, demanding the immediate revocation of a controversial Government order that binds PM Package employees to their current postings in the Kashmir division.
Through a representation to the Chief Secretary, the party warned that the order has shattered the morale of displaced Kashmiri Pandit employees, who are already grappling with “repeated targeted killings” and ongoing psychological distress.
“This order has pushed a vulnerable community into greater insecurity, depriving them of the right to safety and compassion,” said Rakesh Handu, Incharge, Migrant Cell, JD(U), while calling for the immediate reversal or amendment of the order to allow for flexible and compassionate postings.
He demanded an increase in the monthly relief for displaced families from the current Rs 13,000 to Rs 25,000, a necessity for “subsistence” amidst rising costs.
Handu also called for the extension of SRO-43 benefits-a compassionate appointment scheme-to families of PM Package employees and Government staff who become victims of targeted killings.
He also demanded the immediate deployment of adequate police personnel and installation of CCTV cameras to enhance security across all transit camps and residential areas.
Highlighted the “incomplete and delayed completion” of transit accommodations, “which has forced many employees into unsanitary and unsafe rented houses”, Handu sought expedited possession of all pending quarters and the immediate provision of basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation, and power backup.
For relief camps like Jagti, Nagrota, and Purkhoo, the JDU leader sought the repair of dilapidated roads, drains, and camp walls, citing the “health hazards” caused by neglect.
The party’s spokesperson stated that the demands are “rooted in basic security, safety, and justice” and represent the Government’s commitment to the holistic rehabilitation of the displaced community, urging the administration to act with “fairness, patience, and compassion.”
