SRINAGAR, Oct 28: Education Minister and senior National Conference (NC) leader Sakeena Itoo today dismissed allegations that the NC-led government has failed to fulfil its poll promises, calling such claims “propaganda” spread by certain elements.
Speaking to reporters at Sainik School, Itoo said the government has been working steadily to meet its commitments. “Those who say this government has done nothing, I want to tell them that since it was formed just a year ago, we have already fulfilled several promises from our manifesto,” she said.
Listing the achievements, she added, “We brought a resolution for the education sector, passed the Article 370 resolution, changed the academic session, increased old-age and widow pensions, and enhanced marriage assistance.”
She said the Government had also addressed the issue of qualification barriers before elections, removed the qualification bar, distributed 10 kg of ration per household, and provided free bus service for women as promised.
Referring to allegations of departmental bias, Itoo said, “Previous regimes derailed the education sector with flawed policies on transfers, appointments, and infrastructure. Since our Government took charge, we have introduced rationalization, held DPCs, resolved promotion issues, and implemented a fair transfer policy across provinces.”
She added that committees have been formed to review complaints regarding transfers.
Highlighting efforts to regularize employees, Itoo said, “Under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, hundreds of Contingent Paid Workers (CPWs) were regularized-860 in Jammu and 300-400 in Kashmir.
