UDHAMPUR, Oct 28: A leopard was found dead in forest area near village Ansoo in Panchayat Kotlibala, here this morning.
The carcass was recovered from a gorge and there was no visible injury mark on body of the wild animal.
Acting on the information received from the locals that carcass of a male leopard was lying in forest area of Compartment 88/u of Udhampur Range, a team of Wildlife Protection Department’s Control Room in Tandey Rakh Udhampur swiftly reached the spot. Besides taking the carcass into their possession, the team thoroughly checked the nearby area to find out cause of death.
The carcass of leopard was later brought to Rescue Center Tandey Rakh Udhampur for the post mortem and other legal formalities.
According to the Wildlife Department, the leopard had apparently died of a fall from a slope, but the real picture will emerge only after the post-mortem.
