SRINAGAR, Oct 28: Speaker Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, today informed legislators that they cannot raise questions related to departments under the control of the Lieutenant Governor.

Referring to a query concerning the Home Department, the Speaker explained that the question submitted by MLA Langate Sheikh Khursheed had to be deleted because it pertains to a department falling under the jurisdiction of the LG, as per the J&K Reorganisation Act.
Khursheed, the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA, had sought reasons for the “inordinate delay” in providing ex-gratia relief and benefits under SRO-43 to families of violence victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
The legislator had specifically mentioned a few pending cases and asked the Government to provide a timeline for settling compensation claims in favour of the next of kin of those victims.
