KULGAM, Oct 30: A meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee was today convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan at the Mini Secretariat Kulgam to review measures for curbing substance abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary; ADC Kulgam, Viqar Ahmed Gir; SDM DH Pora, Bashir-ul-Hassan; ACR, Riyaz Ahmad Shah; ACD, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar; Tehsildars and other members of the NCORD Committee attended the meeting.
During the meeting, a detailed review was held on the implementation of decisions taken in previous sessions and the actions initiated by enforcement agencies to combat the drug menace.
It was informed that 76 drug peddlers were arrested and 65 FIRs registered in last few months.
The DC was also informed that the district has achieved 100% target in the installation of CCTV cameras in medical shops under the NCORD initiative.
Further, 150 inspections were carried out across pharmacies, resulting in 24 medical shops being disallowed/suspended for violations in maintaining sale and purchase records in this month.
DC Kulgam directed all stakeholders to launch a vigorous second phase of the IEC (Information, Education and Communication) campaign to raise awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse and to strengthen community involvement in its prevention.
He urged all departments and stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure effective eradication of the drug menace from the district.
